This artwork, in which the central figure is inspired by a Greek sculpture, "Crouching Aphrodite," reflects how, in ancient Greece, Aphrodite was often depicted in a modest pose, either hunched or crouching, covering herself with her own arms.
This representation of the goddess, when contemplated and reflected upon, seems somewhat contradictory to what Aphrodite truly embodies. How can Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, feel modesty? Yet, from a human emotional perspective, we tend to feel shame about our virtues and fear our own greatness. This artwork expresses the desire to free ourselves from such modesty and fears, allowing us to reveal who we truly are.
