Luca Monzani

Luca Monzani (Turin, Italy, 1968) is a painter whose career of more than thirty years is defined by a constant exploration of intimacy, myth, and emotion through an ideal, ethereal, and romantic figuration. Originally from Turin, Monzani lived in cities such as Barcelona, Miami, and New York before settling permanently in Palma de Mallorca, a place that has been not only his home but also a creative wellspring nourishing his series inspired by light, courtyards, lighthouses, seascapes, and the female figure.

Initially trained at the Liceo Artistico in Turin and later at the city’s School of Fine Arts, Monzani soon received advice from his mentor Romano Guyetti: “Leave this place; don’t let yourself be boxed in by academia… search, discover.” That exhortation defined his artistic ethos: free from rigid conventions, Monzani has always pursued artistic autonomy, dialogue with his own passions, and the discipline necessary to sustain his craft.

His artistic production is diverse, ranging from small and large-scale canvases to murals for public and private spaces, light installations, and multidisciplinary collaborations. Among his recurring works, several thematic series stand out: Men, Women, Horses, and Bulls, where he explores the strength, presence, and beauty of human and animal figures without resorting to explicit violence. Also notable are his series inspired by Mallorca, featuring veiled courtyards, architecture, lighthouses, and female figures, in which silence, filtered light, and local memory intertwine with his visual poetics.

Monzani regularly exhibits in galleries and art spaces across Europe, Latin America, and the United States. His works are part of both private and public collections in various countries, attesting to his international reach.

What captivates in his work is not only form or technique but also the ability to evoke inner worlds, emotional states, and the tension between presence and absence, the visible and the veiled. This poetic dimension, combined with his discipline and creative independence, makes Luca Monzani’s work not only something to be seen, but something to be felt.
