In this piece of great visual and symbolic subtlety, the female face both emerges and sinks amid blue waves that evoke the sea, dreams, and the subconscious. The encaustic technique, combined with rice paper and watercolor on slate, provides a mineral and organic texture, intensifying the ancient and enigmatic character of the scene.
The figure, with closed eyes, inhabits a space between wakefulness and oblivion. Before her, her reflection or shadow dives into an aquatic abyss, recalling the hypnotic song of the sirens, but also the fragility of the self. The division of the support into two panels reinforces the idea of duality: presence and absence, surface and depth, body and echo.
A work that, like a whisper from the depths of the sea, invites us to pause and listen to what usually remains submerged.
